Why the Hippo
When I was young, I was in the hospital. My mother gave me a stuffed hipp that had a FM Radio inside (back when FM was everything). This hippo even had a remote speaker behind it’s mouth. I loved that hippo and carried it around everywhere.
Soon, everyone started to give me stuffed hippos. My sister even made me a large pair from scratch (Yes Ethel, I still have them). As I started to get older, they began to change from stuffed to glass, ceramic, and stone. I have a nice one made out of pure jade. I have so many that my son made me a hippo village in a curio cabinet we have.
I still have my original hippo. My son uses him to put his glasses on it at night. Here it is:
The knobs from the radio were on the bottom, but alas, the radio doesn’t work anymore.
Now, with our specialty as the smoked foods, it became “The Smokin’ Hippo”. On of the best days in opening the restaurant was the day I got to go online and find, bid on, and purchase all our hippo salt and pepper shakers. We have many diferent kind, with a pair on each table.
Please come and enjoy our hippos!
